Home Addition
Building an addition to an existing home can be the most effective way to add functional and useful space. These projects can also be challenging because of the marriage between existing construction and new construction.
Almost always when considering an addition, the primary goal should be to enrich the day-to-day experience of living in your home, while thinking long term about the generational needs of the family.
While not entirely obsolete, the concept of adding on to a home to increase near-term resale value has become quite difficult. In today’s economy, the immediate return on investment should not be a driving factor of building an addition. This is due to higher material prices, higher labor rates and higher interest rates that no longer resembles “house flipping” bubble of the 90’s.
Another consideration when planning and addition is the local zoning ordinances that could limit potential expansion of the home. For this reason, our first step is to review the ordinances and zoning map and provide an overview of what is allowable, what isn’t allowable, and where there may be wiggle room.
Our design process takes all of these items into consideration. After determining that the project is feasible from a zoning perspective, our next step is take precise measurements of the relevant existing structures and build an initial 3D model in CAD.
This is where the fun begins - as the 3D model is developed, representing the vision you’ve been holding, you’ll witness the design take shape and take life, through understandable video walk-throughs, dimensioned floor plans, and colorful perspective images.
