Our Story
Reflective DesignWorks is a collective of Building Designers with a deep background in residential construction. What drew us together was an enjoyment in serving others, a thirst for continuous learning and improvement, and our pragmatic New England sensibilities. We each take on our own projects as the lead point-of-contact, and collaborate on problem solving, applying varied perspectives, and leveraging our individual strengths.

Our authentic goal is to live our values in how we speak, act, think and work. At the bottom of a business transaction you may find simply value exchanged for value. We strive to also find connections between people, connecting ideas, and a connection with our small shared planet.
Responsibility and Integrity
As designers, the quality of the work we do and the services we provide is of utmost importance to us - our North Star. As stakeholders in your project, we hold ourselves accountable to a shared, successful outcome. We strive to be transparent, ethical and honest in our interactions, and all the work we do.Relationships and Collaboration
We deeply value our relationships with clients, vendors, builders, consultants, subcontractors and all the professionals that make a project come together. Fostering a team-oriented approach by working closely in unison ensures the best possible outcome - and also provides the framework for joyful human connection. The work we all do is getting some job done, and it’s also taking care of one another.Accessibility
For us, accessibility is a compelling and wide-ranging guiding principle that encompasses inclusivity, thoughtfulness, and empathy. We want our designs to be accessible to those with physical disabilities, and consider aging and slowing down. We also strive to make the process accessible by explaining concepts clearly and navigating the project in a way that the client can see where we are at any given moment. Additionally, we want to make design services financially accessible, by offering a variety of packages that accommodate budgets of all sizes.Environmental Stewardship
Designing the built environment can be explained simply as making a sequence of informed decisions. Each decision has an environmental impact that can be qualified, and often quantified. The construction process and energy usage of a home are inherently at odds with ecological balance, and at the same time, as humans we must create our own habitat. Through education and thoughtful consideration, we can align our needs for shelter and a positive relationship with our natural environment. -
Be Client Centered - we are dedicated to bringing YOUR vision to life, not ours.
Be Practical - our nature is approach a project pragmatically, in terms of cost and construction feasibility.
Seek Elegant Solutions - the best solution solves multiple problems, often through subtraction.
Seek Timelessness - avoid trends, favor natural materials, future-proof when possible.
Embrace Logical Creativity - as designers we aren’t artists - we’re creative logicians. Design is a logic puzzle, solved creatively.
Consider The Impact - prioritize solutions with the least environmental impact whenever possible.

As Building Designers, we can perform design and planning services for single-family dwellings and duplexes, including new construction, additions, remodels, ADU’s and tiny houses. Architects, on the other hand, can design any type of building including commercial, industrial, apartment buildings, healthcare, etc. While our work on residential homes is similar to that of an architect, the difference is that we draw our experience from working in the field and adopting CAD technology, rather than in a classroom and through an apprenticeship. Another difference is that structural engineering and interior design are often provided in-house at an architecture firm, while we collaborate with a network of professional specialists when this is required. At the end of the day, people have great results with both Architects and Building Designers, and deciding between the two may be a factor of cost, chemistry and your comfort with their approach to the design process.
